The Snowy Owl 10 MILE is a trail race at York River State Park in Williamsburg, VA (9801 York River Park Rd). The course covers a mix of terrain: technical single track, dirt fire road, a short paved section and about 3/4 mile on road. Five miles of the course are technical single track. The route includes rocky sections, twisting single track, a boardwalk and fast fire roads. Total elevation gain is about 600 feet. The event benefits AWARE (Alliance of Wild Animal Rehabilitators and Educators); representatives from AWARE will be onsite with owls and educational information.
Course details and logistics
The race has three aid stations with water and light snacks:
- Marl Ravine (AS #1) - 1.5 mile and 9 mile
- Riverview (AS #2) - 3.5 mile
- Majestic Oak (AS #3) - 6 mile
Packet pick-up is held on race morning. Hot coffee, cocoa and snacks will be available at the finish. All finishers receive a ceramic medal. Registered participants receive a race logo item, a winter hat and free park entry. Long-sleeve shirts are offered for separate purchase. Awards are given to overall top three and top three in 10-year age groups for male and female divisions. The event uses a 4-hour cutoff to allow for hiking on the course.
