South Fork Alder Ass Race

South Fork Alder Ass Race, hosted by the South Fork Chamber of Commerce, takes place in Brown Memorial Park, South Fork, Colorado. The event offers two burro racing distances: a 3-mile mini course (mostly pavement with forest road segments; about 75 ft of elevation gain) and an 11-mile standard course (majority on forest service roads; roughly 1100 ft of elevation gain and a possible water crossing). Ghost Runners are also part of the weekend.

Each race pairs one runner with a donkey, with rules governing gear such as a pack saddle carrying prospector’s paraphernalia (including a pick, gold pan, and shovel), a lead rope, and no riding.
