The Summer Sendoff 5K & 1 Mile is held in August in Chester Springs, PA. The start and finish are at Pickering Valley Elementary School and Eagle Crossroads Park, 121 Byers Road. The 5K uses the "Byers Loop" course. The event is listed as a rain or shine event.

Format, awards and community support
Registered participants receive a 2025 Summer Sendoff T-shirt. The event offers cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers and medals for the top three finishers in each age group (9 & under through 70+). Additional features include raffle baskets, bib number prizes, and a 1 Mile Walk with games along the route. The timing company for the event is 2L Race Services. New additions for the year include music, a water station, and a tent at the start/finish area. The event donates a portion of every registration to BEST BUDDIES, named as the 2025 recipient, and previously donated over $2,000 in 2024. The Summer Sendoff began as a 2022 graduation service project by Downingtown East and STEM Academy cross country and track athletes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
