Course and format
The course is a 10k loop with sweeping views of the desert in and around St. George. Runners begin the loop in a counterclockwise direction. To cover the required race distances, competitors repeat the same 10k loop and alternate direction between laps (described by the organizer as washing machine style). Loop counts per distance are given as: 10k = 1 loop, 1/2 marathon = 2 loops, 50k = 5 loops. The organizer describes the courses as intended to give new trail runners an opportunity to gain confidence in an unfamiliar setting.
