The John Lawson Tamalpa Challenge
The John Lawson Tamalpa Challenge is a cross-country running event held annually at China Camp State Park in San Rafael, California. The 2025 edition features three races, each approximately 4.2 miles long, primarily on rolling single-track trails with a short stretch on asphalt. The event honors John Lawson, a Tamalpa Runner who passed away in 2000.
Races are divided by age and gender categories, with separate starts for women under 60, men under 60, and a combined race for men and women aged 60 and above. The scenic course starts near Miwok Meadows gate and finishes at the Miwok Meadows picnic area, creating a competitive yet community-focused atmosphere. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
