The John Lawson Tamalpa Challenge
The John Lawson Tamalpa Challenge is a three-race cross-country event held at Miwok Meadows in China Camp State Park, San Rafael, California. Each 4.2-mile course follows rolling single-track trails with about a quarter-mile on asphalt, starting near the Miwok Meadows gate and finishing in the Miwok Meadows picnic area. The event honors a Tamalpa runner who died in 2000 and offers separate races for Women under 60, Men under 60, and a combined 60+ race, with age-group scoring options.
Participation is limited to 200 to protect the park; carpooling is encouraged and warmups are to be kept off the course to avoid collisions. Cash prizes are awarded. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
