Ozark's Mountain Challenge - Hiking (Ascent only)

The event takes place at Sam A. Baker State Park near Patterson, Missouri, on Mudlick Mountain. The challenge asks participants to complete eight ascents of the mountain for a total distance of approximately 21 miles and a cumulative elevation gain of 7,980 feet. Each ascent is roughly 2.6 miles with nearly 950 feet of elevation change. The 2026 route follows the Mudlick Hike Only Trail, then the Mudlick Equestrian and Hike Trail, and a spur to the Fire Tower Trail. The trail is rated "hard" by All Trails for rugged terrain and steep sections up to about 28 percent. The event is organized as a challenge rather than a race; after each ascent hikers are shuttled back to the base.

Logistics and rules

Participants have a 12-hour window to attempt the eight ascents. Registration includes all meals, beverages (including alcohol), aid-station hydration and nutrition, recovery aids, event swag, and access to the optional Spark of Strength ceremony. The Spark of Strength ceremony is offered the Friday before the event at the CCC Lodge; it is optional, free, and does not require preregistration. Pets are not allowed on the trail. Spectators may gather near the start area. The minimum participant age is 16, and minors must be registered with an adult. The event has a no-refund policy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
