Format and awards

The race is a timed, sequential triathlon in swim - bike - run order, using facility equipment. Each discipline is 15 minutes, for a total race time of 45 minutes. Swim heats use a 5-lane lap pool with two athletes sharing a lane; only completed laps count. The bike leg uses stationary bikes that athletes can adjust; bikes will be calibrated as best as possible. The run leg uses treadmills that will also be calibrated as best as possible. Heats consist of 10 athletes and start every 20 minutes (15 minutes of effort plus a 5 minute transition interval). Transition time is discounted and each discipline begins five minutes after the previous one ends. Volunteers will monitor and record swim laps, bike distance, and treadmill runs; athletes may also assist as counters. In case of a tie in total distance, total kilowatts on the stationary bike will be used as the tie-breaker. An awards ceremony and social event will follow at an offsite location to be determined. Awards include overall top three, spirit, decade age-group, most-improved, best swim, best bike, best run, slowest transition, and "dead middle."
