The Squatchy Surprise

The Squatchy Surprise is a unique trail running event held at South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, New Jersey. Scheduled for July 26, 2025, it offers 12-hour, 6-hour, and 3-hour race options. The course features four distinct trail loops, with participants drawing colored golf balls before each loop to determine their route, adding an element of chance and strategy.

A black golf ball allows runners to choose their loop. After 6 PM, runners decide whether to continue drawing loops or switch to a ½-mile mini loop. The event supports the mental health nonprofit Bigger Than The Trail and includes family-friendly activities, discounts, and handcrafted finisher medals.
