Vol State (July 9 - 19, 2026)

The Vol-State is an ultramarathon described as 500K and 314 miles long, beginning with a ferry crossing of the Mississippi River from Missouri to Kentucky and finishing at "the Rock" atop Sand Mountain in Northeast Georgia. The route follows highways and backroads through Tennessee, including hills, rivers, mountains and long valleys. The race takes place in July; the source text notes heat and humidity as part of the conditions. There are no organized aid stations along the course and entrants must be self-reliant for food, water and sleep while on the road.

Logistics and rules

Two registration options are shown: a lower-cost option without pre-race bus or hotel, and a higher-cost "Bus + Hotel" option. The higher-cost option includes a parking spot at the finish line from the day before the race until the entrant finishes or the race ends, a bus seat with lunch en route to Union City, a double-occupancy bed in Union City the night before the race, and a bus from Union City to the ferry on race morning. Entrants must report their location by phone or text twice daily at 0730 and 1930; failure to check in will result in a search. Refunds are available on a declining schedule and a wait list will be used to fill withdrawn spots. Runners may request transportation to the car park if they drop from the race.
