Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) information
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is often caused by abnormal heart-muscle genes that thicken the left ventricular wall. Thickened walls can become stiff and reduce blood flow. Reported signs and symptoms include chest pain with exertion, shortness of breath, fatigue, arrhythmias, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and swelling in the legs or abdomen.
