Event overview

The 14th Annual Black Squirrel event takes place on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Kent State University, 1550 Ted Boyd Drive, Kent, OH 44242. The event includes a traditional loop 5k course that begins and ends near the Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center. The course runs through campus via the Esplanade, is marked on site for local runners, and includes a few small hills. The event is named after Kent State University's unofficial mascot and is open to general participation.

Registration, distances, prizes and policies

  • 5 km - traditional loop course
  • 1 mile - walk/roll/run

Registration fees through Sunday, Mar. 22 include a performance race shirt: $30 for the 5k and $20 for the 1-mile. From Monday, Mar. 23 until the event no shirt is included: $25 for the 5k and $15 for the 1-mile. T-shirts and race bibs are available for pick-up at the Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation & Wellness Center on the day before and the morning of the race.

Cash prizes are offered for overall male and female winners: $75 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third. Medals are awarded to first, second and third place male and female finishers in age groups from 6-9 through 80+. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. The event will be held rain or shine and the organizer reserves the right to refuse any entry. A race course map is available online.
