Event details
The Capital Backyard Ultra is a Last Runner Standing race scheduled for March 28, 2026, at Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area, 10702 Harley Rd, Lorton, Virginia (suburb of Washington DC). The event is a Silver Ticket event with a maximum field of 60 runners. The winner will receive a $1000 prize and a finisher award. The organizers moved the race to late March for cooler temperatures. The nearest airports listed are Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) and Washington Dulles (IAD), with driving times noted in the event information.
Format and entry
The race uses a repeating loop of 4.167 miles that starts on the hour each round. A sequence of whistles is sounded in the minutes before each round and a bell signals the start of the loop. Runners must be present when the final bell rings to continue and may not leave the course except to use a porta potty until they complete the loop. The last remaining runner must complete one additional loop to be named the winner; all other participants are recorded as DNFs for that event.
Entry for 2026 opens June 14. Priority invitations go first to runners who have completed a 100-mile race or who have previously run this event, then to Bronze Ticket winners as they are available. Runners with a 50-mile finish become eligible for invitations starting December 1, 2025. The entry fee is $200 and entries are limited to capacity; refunds are not offered. Registration closes March 1. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
