Course and logistics
The course starts at the West Virginia State Capitol and finishes at University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field on a rubber race track. The 15-mile route goes through downtown, hillside neighborhoods, and along the riverfront; it includes a named climb on Route 119 referred to as "Capital Punishment Hill." The 15-mile relay splits are 3, 5, and 7 miles, with exchanges in the middle of the South Side Bridge; relay teams must arrange their own transport to exchange points.
All events are timed using a one-time-use timing strip tag attached to the back of each bib; both chip and gun times are provided. The 15-mile race has a four-hour time limit. Aid stations with water and Gatorade are placed roughly every one to two miles; there are 12 stations on the 15-mile course plus start and finish. Portajohns are available at the start area and along the course. Strollers are allowed in the 5K only; pets are not permitted. Post-race refreshments and showers are available at Laidley Field.
