Event overview

Chase the Moon is an overnight endurance run held in the Highlands Ranch Backcountry trail system at Mountain Vista High School, Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The event date is Saturday, June 27, 2026. It offers solo and team relay formats over fixed-time and fixed-distance options, including:

  • 12-hour solo
  • 6-hour solo
  • 3-hour solo
  • 50K
  • 3-person relay
  • 5-person relay

The main format is a timed endurance event (12-hour time limit for the headline race). The course is run as repeated loops around the backcountry trail system and is staged at night during the full moon.

Course and logistics

The standard loop is about 10.3 miles, run mostly on dirt trails (approximately 98% dirt) with about 870 ft elevation gain per lap and mostly non-technical terrain. The course is marked with flags, reflective tape, signs, and spray chalk. Two aid stations support the course: Outlaw Aid Station (mile 4.3) and the Start/Finish (mile 10.3). Aid stations provide water, Tailwind endurance fuel, soda, sweet and salty snacks, watermelon, oranges, bananas, bean rollups, PB&J, Kleenex, bug repellant, and Vaseline; port-o-potties are available.

Crews and drop bags are allowed only in the designated Start/Finish area. Pacers are not allowed. Relay exchanges must occur at the Start/Finish; 3-person teams run the full loop while 5-person teams alternate shorter loops (about 5 and 7 miles). Medical staff are located at the Start/Finish tent; medical evacuations are reserved for serious needs. Wildlife, including rattlesnakes, may be present and must not be approached.
