Course and logistics
The standard loop is about 10.3 miles, run mostly on dirt trails (approximately 98% dirt) with about 870 ft elevation gain per lap and mostly non-technical terrain. The course is marked with flags, reflective tape, signs, and spray chalk. Two aid stations support the course: Outlaw Aid Station (mile 4.3) and the Start/Finish (mile 10.3). Aid stations provide water, Tailwind endurance fuel, soda, sweet and salty snacks, watermelon, oranges, bananas, bean rollups, PB&J, Kleenex, bug repellant, and Vaseline; port-o-potties are available.
Crews and drop bags are allowed only in the designated Start/Finish area. Pacers are not allowed. Relay exchanges must occur at the Start/Finish; 3-person teams run the full loop while 5-person teams alternate shorter loops (about 5 and 7 miles). Medical staff are located at the Start/Finish tent; medical evacuations are reserved for serious needs. Wildlife, including rattlesnakes, may be present and must not be approached.
