Event overview
The Chocorua Mountain Race is a 23 km (about 14.2 miles) trail race in the White Mountain National Forest, starting and finishing from Scott Road in Tamworth, New Hampshire. The course is a lollipop route that includes rolling singletrack, steep trail climbs and descents, and a loop over the summit of Mount Chocorua (3,478 ft). The route uses the Hammond Trail, Liberty Trail and Brook Trail and crosses rocky, root-filled terrain, ledges and several rivers and brooks. Total elevation gain is approximately 4,500 feet. Aid points are located at roughly mile 6.0, a summit checkpoint at mile 10.0, and the finish at mile 14.2.
Logistics and rules
The event has an entry cap of 250 runners and a time limit of about 9 hours. Pacers are not permitted and crew access is limited to the start/finish area; there are no on-course crew locations and no on-course drop bags (drop bags are allowed at start/finish). This is a cupless event; participants must bring their own hydration system. Mandatory gear that will be checked includes: 1 liter of fluids, 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, and a space or emergency foil blanket. Entrants are asked to have completed a hilly, moderately technical trail race of at least 10 miles or to have sufficient mountain running experience.
