Course details
The 5 mile course is a loop that begins and ends on Sackett Avenue in downtown Salida near Riverside Park and the front of the Scout Hut. The course is mostly flat with about 158 to 160 feet of elevation gain and loss and measures closer to 4.9 miles. Surfaces include paved roads, paved bike paths, gravel or dirt pedestrian paths, and sections around Franz Lake. Organizers note there may be a few snowy or icy spots, and roads and paths will remain open to other users including vehicle traffic. Packet pickup, post race drinks and snacks, and awards take place in Riverside Park.
The 1 mile run follows Sackett Avenue for a half mile out and back, is timed, and includes a participant ribbon and post race snacks.
Purpose and awards
The event aims to encourage health, fitness, community connection, provide a local competitive opportunity, and raise funds for the Chaffee County Community Foundation. Prize money is offered to top finishers: overall top three men and women receive $150, $100, and $75, and first place masters man and woman receive $100.
