Event overview
The Columbia Duathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned sprint duathlon held on Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia, MD. The event has a race capacity of 450 participants and organizers report the event has sold out for the past five years. Participants compete in adult and youth divisions. Minimum age for the adult race is 14 years. Youth athletes must be 7 to 15 years old. Age is determined as of December 31.
Course and distances
The course is looped and described as relatively flat with one hill. The run course uses paved surfaces and the youth run takes place on a parking lot surface. The adult run loop includes one aid station at mile 1 offering water and Gatorade. Distances offered:
- Sprint: 2 mile run | 10 mile bike | 2 mile run
- Youth 11-15: 0.5 mile run | 2 mile bike | 1 mile run
- Youth 7-10: 0.5 mile run | 2 mile bike | 0.5 mile run
Logistics and rules
Race venue address is 7000 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, MD. Parking is in the corporate lot at 7021 Columbia Gateway Drive, across from the transition area. Athlete check-in and packet pick up are required in person; participants 18 and older must bring photo identification. Sprint participants receive an ankle timing chip on race morning and youth athletes receive timing chips at the start line. The transition area is for athletes only plus one wristbanded adult or sibling aged 15 or older. Awards are given to overall top three finishers by gender and non-binary, and age-group top three; youth awards are top three by single year ages 7–15.
