Event overview
The Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day running event organized by the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. The 2025 edition takes place on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla Street, Dallas, TX. The event began in 1967 at White Rock Lake and has continued as an annual community running event. The event’s fundraising goal is $30,000; to date $6,109.16 has been raised.
Race categories and on-site features
The event offers timed, untimed, and virtual options for both an 8-mile and a 5K run/walk. Additional categories and offerings include:
- 8 Mile and 5K - timed and untimed options
- Youth - ages 7-12, timed and untimed options
- Tots/Toddlers/Strollers - newborn to age 6
- Diaper Dash - crawlers only
- Virtual 8 Mile or 5K option
Timed participants have access to an exclusive Participant Corral; only timed participants are allowed in that corral and dogs or strollers are not permitted inside. The event includes a Team Challenge in the timed 5K where team scoring uses the top four finishers' times. A costume contest is open to registered participants, with prizes of YMCA family memberships for top finishers; a dog costume contest is also offered. The Roost is a paid pre-race gathering area on Dallas City Hall Plaza offering food, beverages, and semi-private restrooms; a premium pass includes two alcoholic beverages for guests aged 21 or older.
