Falcon Crest Winter Trail Challenge : overview
The event takes place on November 15, 2025, at Falcon Crest Parking Lot / Monte Vista Trailhead in El Dorado Hills, CA. Distances offered include:
- 5K
- 10K
- 15K
- Half Marathon
- 30K
- Trail Marathon
Online registration is available through race morning and race day registration is offered in person. Entry fees vary by distance and are higher for in-person race day sign-up. All finishers receive a commemorative medal.
Course and logistics
The courses use primarily single-track trails with dirt and rocky surfaces and minimal pavement. The elevation profile is rolling hills with technical sections, shaded areas, and exposed sections. There is a creek crossing that may result in wet feet and slippery rocks. Routes are marked with ribbons, signs, and gypsum.
Aid stations and toilets are located on course at several parking lot aid stations including Salmon Falls and Old Salmon Falls; portable toilets are available at the start/finish. Drop bags can be checked and will be delivered to specified aid stations. The trail marathon route is the half marathon course run twice followed by the 5K loop. The 30K uses the half then the 10K. The half and some shorter races are out-and-back routes with designated turnarounds. Parking is available at Falcon Crest (gravel lot) and at nearby lots, with some lots charging a day-use fee.
