Event overview
The Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run at Fountainhead Regional Park takes place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in Fairfax Station, Virginia. The event is produced by EX2 Adventures and offers trail running on hiking trails and some old dirt roads along the Occoquan Reservoir. Registration includes on-course support, aid stations, medical coverage, post-race food, awards, and race swag. There is a charity partnership with Homestretch and registrants have an opportunity to donate during registration.
Course, distances, rules and services
- 4.8 miles (single loop) : elevation gain about 450 feet
- 10.5 miles (includes the 4.8-mile loop plus a lollipop out-and-back on the Bull Run Occoquan Trail)
The 4.8-mile course is a single loop. The longer course adds an extended out-and-back section on the Bull Run Occoquan Trail. Finish medals are available as an optional add-on; series finishers may receive a special medal. A children’s race day program is offered in partnership with Little Fern Learning; the kids race is for ages 2-11 and requires pre-registration.
Race rules include no in-ear headphones, visible race numbers worn on the front, no pets, pacers, or strollers on course, and a requirement to stay on designated trails. Outside assistance is permitted only within 50 meters of aid stations. Age group categories include Male, Female, and Non-Binary divisions with standard age brackets from 12 and under up to 70-79.
