The Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run - Laurel Hill takes place on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA. The event is produced by EX2 Adventures and offers two course options:
- 5.4 miles (one lap)
- 10 miles (two laps)
Course, services and rules
The course runs through about 1600 acres of former prison grounds and starts and finishes under the old guard towers at the Workhouse Arts Center. It follows a mixture of forested and open meadow singletrack, largely on dirt and crushed stone, with only short pavement sections at the beginning and end. There are no extended climbs; the route has many short ups and downs. Elevation gain is listed as 350 feet for the one-lap option and 700 feet for the two-lap option.
The event includes aid stations, medical support, and post-race food. Registration offers an opportunity to donate to the local non-profit Homestretch. Optional finish medals and race swag are available; completing all five races in the series earns a special series medal. A supervised kids program is offered for ages 2-11, including nature activities and a short kids race; pre-registration is required.
Key rules include no in-ear headphones, no pets, pacers, or baby strollers on course, visible race numbers worn on the front, outside assistance allowed only within 50 meters of aid stations, and staying on designated trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
