Event overview
The Friends of Yellow River State Forest Trail Run/Walk takes place on May 8-9, 2026 at Yellow River State Forest, 737 State Forest Road, Harpers Ferry, Iowa. The seventh annual event includes multiple trail distances:
- 5K (Friday and Saturday)
- 10K
- Half-marathon
Races are run on existing trails, so distances are not exact. Races will be timed. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are allowed. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult; children over 12 must be registered. The Friday 5K is described as family-friendly but trails may make strollers difficult.
Registration, fees and prizes
Standard entry fees listed are $35 for each 5K, $45 for the 10K, and $55 for the half-marathon. Prices increase by $5 starting April 1. Online registration closes May 6 at 11:59, and walk-ins are welcome. Registrants must be pre-registered by an April deadline to receive a shirt - exact date to be announced. A "Dirty Double" option pairs the Friday 5K with a Saturday race at reduced combined prices: $70 for two 5Ks, $75 for 5K plus 10K, and $80 for 5K plus half-marathon; Dirty Double participants receive a hand-crafted race mug.
Age division winners are awarded male and female winners in 17 and under, 18-49, and 50 and over divisions. Prizes are given for first through third place; winners receive a canvas photograph from within Yellow River State Forest. Sponsorship levels and benefits are specified for Oak, Sapling, and Acorn donors. Friends of Yellow River State Forest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
