Event overview
The Grit Your Grief 5K Run Walk is scheduled for May 16, 2026 at MBS International Airport in Freeland, Michigan. The event is produced by the Children's Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region and includes a live 5K run/walk, a VIRTUAL 5K option during virtual race weeks, a Family Color Run on MBS property, and a Spectator Pass. The live 5K course will use airport taxiways and a portion of a main runway. The Color Run will take place on MBS property but not on a runway due to FAA regulations.
Logistics and registration
Registration opens January 16, 2026. Published event fees are $35 for the 5K and VIRTUAL 5K, $20 for the Color Run, and $10 for the Spectator Pass. Early registration by April 21 guarantees a T-shirt for the 5K and Color Run; later registrations may receive a T-shirt and medal only if available. Virtual Race Weeks run May 6-20 and allow participants to choose their own routes. Live race packets will be available on race day. Virtual race packets are available on race day or the following week at the Children’s Grief Center in Midland (4708 James Savage Rd, Midland, MI 48642) or can be shipped for an additional cost. Memorial signs may be purchased and will be displayed on MBS property. All proceeds benefit children and families served in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
