Event overview
The Headless Horseman BYU takes place on November 1, 2025 in Laingsburg, Michigan (7835 E Price Rd). The event offers two options: a single loop and a 12-hour Back Yard Ultra (BYU). The BYU uses last-man-standing rules: runners begin each loop on the hour and must complete the loop within the hour; failure to start a loop results in elimination. Completing the full 12 hours results in a total of 50 miles. The 12-hour event does not allow race day registration.
Course and race details
The course is a single loop of 4.167 miles with 151 ft of elevation gain, routed inside Sleepy Hollow State Park (over 2,600 acres). Terrain includes prairie grass fields, hardwood forest, stands of pine trees, and a river corridor. Timing will use chip timing with live results and lap recording. There will be no aid stations on course; one aid station will be located near the start/finish with snacks and drinks. All entries receive a T-shirt and patch; single-loop entries also receive a sticker and a finisher patch. Awards include Playmakers gift cards for overall and age-group placings and a Headless Horseman trophy for the BYU winner. A headlamp is required for the later laps. Registration fees vary by event and by date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
