Heart of America Marathon
The Heart of America Marathon & Fun Team Relay, held annually in Columbia, Missouri, is the second oldest continuously running marathon in the U.S., celebrating its 66th edition on Labor Day, September 1, 2025. The event features a full marathon and a fun team relay with 2-4 members sharing the course. The challenging 26.2-mile course starts at the Boone County History and Culture Center, includes scenic stretches along the Katy Trail by the Missouri River, the iconic Easley Hill, and rural gravel roads totaling about 5.5 miles.
The race is known for its heat, hills, humidity, and a strict six-hour time limit. Aid stations provide water and sports drinks, but runners must plan their own nutrition. The event offers a historic, community-focused atmosphere with unique awards and post-race festivities at the History Center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
