Course, awards and purpose

The course starts at the Rialto Theatre on Kenmore Boulevard and runs east to the south end of Summit Lake, connecting to the Towpath via the Summit Lake Trail. The route uses a bridge across the water past Summit Lake Nature Center and Summit Lake Park, crosses the Ohio & Erie Canal on a second bridge, then runs west and south along the north side of the lake before returning on Kenmore Boulevard. The finishers’ medal includes a physical cowbell with a ringer. Runners who complete five races in the Akron Promise City Series receive a specially designed medal by an Akron artist. Proceeds provide resources, mentorship and post-secondary scholarships to Akron Public School students in Kenmore and nearby communities.
