Last of the Felascans : Nov 22, 2025

This event is a Backyard Ultra held in Alachau, FL. Participants run a 4.167-mile loop every hour and are eliminated if they fail to complete a loop within the hour. The loop distance is equal to 100 divided by 24, so a competitor who completes a full day of the event will have run 100 miles. The course is on trails during daytime and on a dirt road after dark; there is no pavement on either course. There is no predefined finish; the winner is the competitor who completes a loop that no other competitors complete. If no competitor outlasts every other competitor, there is no winner.

Location, logistics and rules

The listed venue is 12730 NW 109th Ln, Alachau, FL, within San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park. The park was purchased under Florida’s Environmentally Endangered Lands Program in 1974, covers over 7,000 acres, and is described as one of the largest protected contiguous stands of mesic hammock in Florida. Each runner may use a maximum 10'x10' area for base camp at the start/finish. There will be bathrooms and water at the start/finish; there will be no aid stations on course and no aid outside the start/finish area. A whistle will sound at 3, 2, and 1 minute remaining before each loop. Shirts will be provided and the last person standing receives a special trophy. Registration closes Thu, Nov 20. No refunds; entry fees from dropouts will be donated to the Friends of San Felasco. Rules require being in the starting corral and starting when the bell rings, with no assistance allowed after the bell until the loop is complete.
