Event overview
Leatherwood Marathons takes place April 11, 2026, in Ferguson, NC, on private trails in the Leatherwood Mountains. The event is organized by Dirty Wolf Racing and is described by the organizer as not a race. Registration closes April 8. The core course is a 12-mile loop with about 3,050 feet of elevation gain per loop. Distances offered:
- 25K – one 12-mile loop
- 50K – two loops plus an out-and-back
- 50 Mile – four full loops
- 100 Mile – eight loops
Course, aid and rules
The course terrain is steep and rugged, with roots, rock, mud, and frequent climbing and descending. Trails are marked with orange ribbons and yellow arrows. There are three aid stations per loop: Alpha (crew access), Wolf Fang (no crew), and Omega. Aid station offerings include water, Tailwind, soda, candy, bacon, fruit, pickles, salt, and basic first aid. The 100-mile entry carries a requirement that a runner have a pacer with them at dusk and has a 36-hour cutoff. Finishers receive a handmade pottery medal and race swag; results are posted on UltraSignup and photos are planned about one week after the event, subject to conditions. Accommodations near the course include cabins and a creekside campground with tent and RV sites and basic facilities. Rules note no dogs, no strollers, no unregistered runners, and no refunds.
