Event overview
The MD Heat Trail Race is a trail running event at the Patapsco Pickall Area in Elkridge, MD. The event offers the following distances:
- 50K
- 25K
On-site parking is adjacent to the pavilions and start/finish area at Shelter #707. Parking capacity is limited. Bathrooms and two large pavilions are available at the finish area. The event includes an after-party with craft beer and food.
Course and logistics
The course is rolling single-track with two river crossings and a short paved section through a parking area. Runners will encounter more than 2,000 feet of vertical gain, a mix of technical rocky sections and smoother runnable sections, and three out-and-back segments. One out-and-back goes to Valley Overlook, a view overlooking the valley, where athletes must pick up a wrist band. 50K athletes complete two loops of the 25K course and must collect a wrist band on each loop; wrist bands are required to be shown at the finish to receive a finish credit. Two other out-and-backs lead to aid stations where volunteers will check bib numbers.
Aid stations are located at approximately 2 miles, 5.25 miles, 8 miles, 11.5 miles, and 16 miles. Stations will provide Tailwind, water, and real food; gels will not be provided. The 50K has a loop cutoff rule that prevents a second loop start if the first loop is finished after 12:00 pm. Volunteers staff aid stations and course checkpoints.
