About the race
MIDNIGHT Rat Race – UNSANCTIONED is a bold, unsanctioned night race in Springfield, Missouri. The roughly 13-mile course from Point A to Point B unfolds across sidewalks, roads, alleys, and grass, with no course markings, volunteers, or directions. Runners must navigate the urban night on their own, with a strict 3 hour 15 minute time limit.
The event emphasizes endurance, strategy, and grit, and offers minimal race-day amenities. Registrants receive a RAT Medal adorned with a piece of literal trash, a race bib, a lottery ticket, and post-race munchies; top finishers win a taxidermied rat. Notable rules include GPS tracking, a gas-station video stop, and a Downtown Springfield Square selfie. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
