Race format and course
Courses run through mountains, fields, roads and rivers of central Massachusetts and include border crossings into New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The route follows the Midstate Trail and its pre-marked yellow triangle blazes. The event uses wave starts, seeding runners from slowest to fastest for the 100 and 50 mile events to manage trail impact and on-course support. Aid station cutoff times are based on the wave-start model. Runners are asked to provide an estimated pace for wave assignment; organizers may hold runners who are outrunning race support.
