Event overview
The Moran Constitutional Relay is a two-day team trail relay held at Moran State Park on Orcas Island. The course totals 70 miles and is divided into 12 legs for teams of two to six runners. The relay is run in two stages: the first eight legs on Saturday and the final four legs on Sunday. Registration is by team and is limited to the first 50 teams. Entry includes an event tech t-shirt, meals across the weekend, and finisher awards for teams that complete the entire course.
Course, logistics, and rules
Most trails on the course are well-groomed and non-technical, with a few moderately technical sections; some legs have substantial climb or descent. The route reaches the top of Mount Constitution at 2,399 feet and passes lakeshores, streams, wetlands, and park buildings. Teams may divide legs among members as they choose provided each team member completes at least two legs; runners may run consecutive legs. Each team is allowed two vehicles for exchange logistics. Teams must provide a volunteer or pay a $195 volunteer fee; volunteers may work up to six hours and a member of a two-person team cannot serve as that team’s volunteer. Course markings, headlamp use during darkness, and other safety rules apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
