Course and logistics
The course follows the historical MMTR route run in reverse toward the Mount Pleasant Loop, using a mix of old and new trails and sections on dirt and gravel roads in the National Forest. Recent changes increase single-track and mountain trail mileage and reduce time on gravel roads. Near Mount Pleasant the route follows the Old Hotel Trail and old jeep roads toward Long Mountain Wayside. After the Long Mountain aid station the second half includes dirt and old logging roads and several miles of single track. The final aid station is at Porters Ridge, then the course descends about 3.5 miles toward the finish on Rt 56 and Montebello Campground. The National Geographic topographic map #789 (Lexington / Blue Ridge Mts.) is recommended for the area.
A training run is scheduled for October 4, starting at the Montebello Store with an out-and-back route; common turnaround points are Forest Valley (about 18 miles) and Salt Log Gap (about 20 miles). Trail work is planned for October 18; volunteers are invited and organizers will post updates. A pre-race briefing and a post-race meal for finishers are part of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
