Event
The Great Eastern Endurance Run (GEER) takes place November 1, 2025 at Sherando Lake Recreation Area in Lyndhurst, VA, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The event offers these distances:
- 40 miles
- 20 miles
- 10 miles
The course is primarily trail and forest road, with about 90% single track and jeep roads and very little pavement. The route includes mountain terrain and climbs, ridgelines, Bald Mountain Jeep Road, switchbacks, and remote forest sections.
Logistics and support
Aid station support varies by distance: the 40 miler has seven aid stations, the 20 miler has two, and the 10 miler has one. The longest unsupported stretch listed is 9.3 miles on the 20 miler. Typical aid station supplies include water, electrolyte drink, ice, fruit, salty snacks, sweet items, GU vanilla gels, candies, chips, and pretzels. Cutoff times are enforced: the 40 miler has a 12-hour cutoff and the 20 miler has a 6-hour cutoff.
Crew access is allowed at designated points reachable by vehicle via the Blue Ridge Parkway; crews are asked to park with all four wheels off the pavement. Drop bag rules limit size to a small backpack, require clear labeling, prohibit valuables, and note that some drop bags return to the finish later in the day. Registration opens July 25; tiered entry fees apply by date for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
