New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race
The New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race takes place on May 2, 2026, near Fayetteville and Lansing, West Virginia. The event is a running road race of 6 miles that starts on one rim of the New River Gorge, descends to the river where participants cross, and returns to the rim of the opposite side with a short trail section to finish. The finish area is at Adventures on the Gorge at the resort rim-side pool, and registration includes a post-race brunch.
Course, logistics, and services
The course begins on the south side of Fayette Station Road (Route 82) and follows Burma Road and Ames Heights Road. Participants should plan for a 1,300 ft descent and a 1,300 ft climb; the course includes a steep section rated at 20 percent. The event uses closed roads for the race and provides chip timing, a water station on route, bus transportation to the start line from the finish area, a finisher medal, a short sleeve t-shirt, and finish line photos. Packet pickup is available the day before the race at Adventures on the Gorge and on the morning of the event. Awards are given to top finishers in each age bracket in the running category only.
