Event overview
The Old West Trail Runs take place on March 14, 2026 in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park area with start/finish at Stagecoach Trails RV Resort & Campground near Julian, CA. Distances offered:
- 50K - 31.1 miles
- Marathon - 26.2 miles
- Half Marathon - 13.1 miles
Registration opens October 1, 2025. Entry includes a tech shirt; medals are given to finishers. The resort offers full hookups, restrooms, hot showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and on-site cabins and rooms. Dogs are allowed in camp but are not permitted on state park trails.
Course and support
The 50K and marathon courses have about 2,555 feet total elevation gain and loss. The half marathon course has about 670 feet total elevation gain and loss. Major aid stations and named locations on the courses include Stagecoach Saddle, Blair Valley, Plum Canyon, and Pinyon Canyon. Full aid stations provide water, sports drink, soda, ice, snacks (gels, chips, crackers, PB&J sandwiches, fruit, cookies) and electrolyte capsules.
Crew access is allowed only at Blair Valley and Plum Canyon. Runners who need to leave the course must notify the aid station captain and radio operator at one of the major aid stations. Finish-line cutoffs apply for the race distances. Volunteers and trail maintenance groups support the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
