Fundraising and beneficiaries
Proceeds benefit the Open Door Café, a nonprofit community café in Southwest Virginia. Last year the café served nearly 17,000 meals, more than 13,000 of which were subsidized through charitable gifts and event proceeds. Over 82% of patrons donated less than the $8 per plate value, with an average per plate donation of $2.06. The event supports per-plate subsidies and offers participant fundraising options such as per-mile pledges or fixed donations. Sample impacts listed by the organizer include $5 subsidizing a discounted meal and $100 providing 10 Classic Fare café combo meals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
