Event overview
The Race for Education is a two-day race weekend in 2026 offering both in-person and virtual options. It includes the following events:
- 5K
- Kids 1 Mile Fun Run (open to ages 2 - 12)
- VIRTUAL 5K
- VIRTUAL 1 Mile Fun Run
The race raises funds for the Spotsylvania Education Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that supports programs and projects for Spotsylvania County Public Schools.
Logistics, registration and awards
In-person races are scheduled to begin and end on the track behind Massaponax High School, 8201 Patriot Highway, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. The 5K route includes Guinea Station Road, which will be closed during the race period. Virtual participants may complete their chosen distance at a location of their choosing during race weekend.
Registration opens January 1, 2026. Registrations received by September 1, 2026 are guaranteed a race t-shirt; registrations after that date have limited shirt availability. Race bibs and t-shirts are available for pre-race pick up at the SCPS Administrative Services Office, 8020 River Stone Drive, Fredericksburg, VA, and on race morning.
In-person 5K awards include overall top three men and women and top three in the 14 & Under and 15-19 age groups. All youth ages 12 and under in the 1 Mile Fun Run receive a participation medal. One school at each level with the largest number of paying participants will receive a $300 School Challenge Award and a trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
