The Racin’ to Beat Cancer event takes place on October 11 at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, VA. Distances offered:
- 5k
- 10k
- Half marathon
The event benefits the We Rock Cancer charity. Points from the races count toward the organizer’s Year-Long 5k, 10k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack Series, and toward the Fall Series. A virtual race option is available. Walkers are welcome.
Course and race services
All courses run on trails at Burke Lake Park. The route is described as fairly flat and well maintained but includes exposed roots to navigate. The 5k and 10k use a single out-and-back; the half marathon uses the out-and-back twice.
Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (drifit) event shirt, and chip timing. Water stations are provided as follows: nine along the half marathon (miles listed), three along the 10k, and two along the 5k; Gatorade is available at some stations. Packet pickup is available at Road Runner Sports on the Friday before the race and also at the event. Live results will be posted on Athlinks and via a QR code at the race. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to 1st and 2nd place in standard age groups from 19&Under through 70+. The organizer runs the event in all weather and will notify registered participants if the race is cancelled or changed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
