Event overview
The Racing Towards Preservation event on March 7, 2026 takes place at Payne’s Farm, Locust Grove, VA. Distances offered:

- 10k
The course is a scenic loop around the battlefield with gentle inclines; the 10k is two laps of the 5k loop. The event benefits Friends of Wilderness Battlefield. Points from the races count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack Series, and toward the Winter Series. A virtual race option is available. Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (Dri-fit) event shirt, and the event is chip timed.
Logistics and services
Registration fees listed in the event details are: 5k $30 (rising to $35 after Feb 15) and 10k $45 (rising to $50 after Feb 15); prices increase by $5 on race morning. T-shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before Feb 25; extras may be available after that date. Packet pickup is available at the event; race day registration is offered but shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed for same-day registrants.
Water stations along the courses are noted: one on the 5k and three on the 10k at approximately mile markers 1.55, 3.1 and 4.65; Gatorade may be available at some stations. Port-a-johns will be on site. Live results will be posted online and via a race-day QR code; final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Awards are given to top 3 men and women overall and to 1st and 2nd in standard age groups. Parking is available at Zoar Baptist Church; a latitude/longitude pin is provided for location.
