Rio Frio on Ice

The Rio Frio 5k on Ice takes place on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Alamosa, CO (502 2nd St., 81101). The course is conducted on the frozen Rio Grande. A backup racecourse uses the 30-acre pond at Blanca Vista Park and a portion of the levee trail system when ice depth on the river is unsafe; an alternate course has been used four times in the race's 11-year history. The race is chip timed and offers ice-themed awards. Runner's World named the event an "editor's pick" in 2015.

Logistics

The event registration fee is listed as $22.20 (includes a $2.20 fee); the listed price increases after December 28, 2025. Race packet pickup is available Friday, January 23, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Knee Knockers Bar & Grill (500 Cottonwood Dr, Alamosa) and on race day from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center. Race registration does not include a shirt; shirts may be preordered for $15 during registration with a preorder deadline of December 31, 2025.
