Course and logistics
The start/finish area is at Raven Lodge on the edge of Lake Raven. The route uses the Huntsville State Park trail system and is loop-based: the 50 mile is three 16.7-mile loops, the 50K combines a 14.6-mile first lap with a 16.7-mile lap, and the half marathon is a 13.1-mile modified lap. A single full loop has about 900 feet of elevation gain and the same amount of loss. Trail surfaces include rolling sections, many exposed tree roots, bridges, and lakefront sections.
Course markings include caution tape, yellow arrows, signs with distance directions, and reflective markers for low-light hours. The race is cupless; runners must carry a cup or bottle. Aid stations provide full support, but one named “Bridge” is set up primarily for half marathon runners and should not be relied on by all distances. Drop bags for the far aid station (Dam Nation) must be delivered to Raven Lodge during Friday packet pickup for event delivery. Chip timing uses ankle-worn chips; pacers must register, start and end at an aid station, and only one pacer is allowed per runner. Rules emphasize Leave No Trace practices.
