Course, support and rules

The 100-mile course is five full laps of roughly 20 miles each. The 100K format includes one short 2-mile lap then three full 20-mile laps. Each full lap has about 1,250 feet of elevation gain and equal loss. Trails run around a lake, over wooden bridges, and through pine forest with a bed of pine needles; roots are noted as the main footing hazard.

The race uses chip timing with ankle straps; chips are picked up on race morning and must be returned if a runner leaves early. Full aid station support is provided around the course, and crews may access multiple locations. Drop bag rules include separate bags for two nearby aid stations (Dam Nation and Gate) and specific delivery and return procedures. Pacers are allowed after 49 miles; runners aged 60 and older may have a pacer for the whole race. Course markings include tape, arrows, and reflective markers for night navigation.
