Event overview
The 35th annual Romancing the Island event takes place on April 11, 2026 at Angel Island State Park, Belvedere Tiburon, CA. The race offers two distances:
- Half Marathon - completes the island loop twice
- 10K - single loop around the island
The course is a hilly loop that circumnavigates Angel Island and provides views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Alcatraz Island, the East Bay and Marin County. The event is limited to 400 participants. Registration fees include the athlete ferry fee.
Course, travel and logistics
There are no aid stations out on the course; aid is available for half marathoners before the second loop. Half marathon runners must check in at that aid station before starting the second loop. Course cut-off time for both distances is 3.5 hours; half marathoners must complete the first loop within 1 hour 30 minutes. Hikers and walkers may participate in the 10K. Headphones and other audio devices are not allowed on course due to narrow trails and safety concerns.
Athletes must take a special chartered ferry from the Tiburon ferry dock to the island in order to participate. Bib numbers are mailed beginning two weeks before the event; those who do not receive a bib may pick one up on race morning at the Tiburon ferry dock. Tiburon parking lots charge about $5-20 per day. Spectator ferry fees are paid at the dock with set prices for adults and children. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
