Event overview
Spirit of Syllamo is an ultra endurance trail event scheduled for December 13, 2025 in Norfork, Arkansas. The venue for 2025 is Misty Mornings at 309 Riverview Trail. The event uses new routes after a March 2025 tornado and subsequent flooding damaged the original trail system. Three distances are offered:
- 100 miles
- 35 miles
- 9ish miles
The 9ish mile option in 2025 follows the Ozark Highlands Trail from the White River to Matney Knob.
Logistics and course details
Trails are described as rugged, rocky, steep, and densely forested with varied terrain and multiple creek crossings. Elevation is commonly recorded around 170 feet gain per mile, though the course can feel like 200+ feet per mile. Course marking will use flagging at eye level and extra signage at known problem intersections; GPS files may be provided. Aid stations are planned farther apart than typical road races, often more than one hour apart and roughly 5 to 13+ miles between stations. Cutoff limits are: 9 mile - 4 hours, 35 mile - 11 hours, 100 mile - 34 hours. Drop bags are allowed for the 35m and 100m distances and must be labeled with bib number, runner name, and location; small carry-on size is requested. Crewing notes warn of steep, narrow roads and recommend a capable vehicle for some locations. Pacers are permitted in specified sections for 100 mile runners.
