The Backland is a challenging last-man-standing trail race held near the Texas-Oklahoma border at Walnut Creek Resort & Marina in Gordonville, TX. Limited to 38 participants, runners must complete a 4.5-mile loop ("land") within one hour to continue, with the race continuing hourly until only one runner remains. The event features mostly trail terrain with some road sections.

Participants who complete 103.5 miles (23 loops) earn a 100-mile belt buckle, while 153 miles (34 loops) earns a golden 150-mile buckle. The last runner standing wins a $1000 cash prize, a trophy, and a six-pack of beer or root beer. The race atmosphere includes optional pre-race camping and awards for best start/finish setup.
