The Gauntlet

The Gauntlet is a paddle race held on the Lower Cahaba River in Orrville, Alabama, starting and finishing at Old Cahawba Archaeological Park. Participants race upstream against a mild current to a turnaround point before returning. The event offers two distances: a 10-mile race and a more challenging 20-mile race.

Various categories are available, including canoe, surfski, kayak, recreational kayak, stand-up paddleboard (SUP) hardboard and inflatable, and outrigger canoe, with options for solo or tandem paddlers. The race features a scenic course with beautiful river views and wildlife, making it a rewarding end-of-year challenge for paddlers of different skill levels.
