Event overview

The Tortugas Mountain 24 Hour Challenge is a 24-hour trail running event in Las Cruces, New Mexico, held on November 14-15, 2025. Entry is free as a "Fatass" race; donations are accepted to fund the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance. Funds raised support trail building and maintenance work days and trainings, local trail events, tool purchases, and advocacy and education about trails and outdoor recreation. Registration is capped at 50 and closes on October 31, 2025 at 11:59 PM MT.

Course and race logistics

The course starts at the Arroyo Loop trailhead at the Monte Vista Parking Lot and completes a 4-mile lap around Tortugas Mountain. The first lap is clockwise and subsequent laps alternate direction. The trail is described as rocky, rolling single track with some two-track. The route will be marked with orange or pink flagging with reflective tape, rock cairns, and brown BLM trail markers; flagging and reflective tape will be continuously visible in line of sight.

Aid stations are located at the start/finish under the covered picnic area and at the 2-mile mark. Aid stations will offer water, Heed electrolyte drink, and minimal food; participants should plan to provide most of their own food. This is a cupless event, and crews and supporters may be present at the start/finish aid station. Each lap must be recorded on a registration board with the time of day; runners may leave and return during the 24-hour period and do not need to be present for the full period to have an official finishing distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
