Event overview
The Tug Hill Yeti Quest is a winter adventure race held on January 31, 2026, at the Black River Environmental Improvement Association (BREIA) Trails near 7849 Jackson Hill Road, Booneville, NY 13309. The event uses snow conditions; participants must travel using snowshoes and/or skis. Teams navigate with a map and compass only; GPS is not allowed. A map-based checkpoint format determines results.
Race format and services
Race options described include a 3 hour cross-country ski/snowshoe orienteering race, an 8 hour ski and snowshoe race, and an 8 hour snowshoe race. Final course distances are still being determined. Registration includes one set of maps per team, a performance winter beanie, snacks, a post-race meal, and prizes for top teams. There are limited quantities of snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals.
Categories and rules
Teams may range from 1 to 6 people, with a cap of 4 for adult teams and up to 6 for family teams. Categories include solo, 2-person, 3-4 person, and family teams, with prizes for top finishers in each category. Teams that return after the time limit lose one checkpoint for every minute they are late. A navigation clinic is offered before the shorter race.
