About the race
Tunnel Hill 100 & 50 Mile Runs take place in Vienna, Illinois along the Tunnel Hill State Trail. The event offers 100-mile and 50-mile distances on a crushed limestone trail, with wetlands, trestles, and a historic tunnel; the 100-mile course repeats the 50-mile loop four times, the 50-mile loop twice. It is USATF-sanctioned and IAU-certified, with 2024 UTMB index status and a Western States qualifier for 2026.
The 30-hour time limit applies to both distances; aid stations are spaced about every 3–5 miles and runners should carry fluids. Pacers are allowed under USATF rules, with restrictions for record attempts. Notable records include Herron’s 100-mile world mark and Olsen’s 50-mile record.
